Following the success of Dune: Prophecy, Legendary Entertainment is set to expand another beloved sci-fi franchise with an origin story for Pacific Rim. The new prequel series is currently in development, with Eric Heisserer, known for his work on Shadow and Bone and Bird Box, attached to the project. This development is part of a first-look deal between Heisserer’s recently launched production company, Chronology, co-founded with Carmen Lewis, and Legendary Entertainment.

In a desperate bid for survival, humanity creates its own monsters—the Jaegers. The Pacific Rim franchise began in 2013 with the Guillermo del Toro-directed feature film, which quickly gained a cult following for its thrilling action sequences and innovative world-building. The franchise has since expanded into other media, including the Netflix animated series Pacific Rim: The Black, which further explored the rich lore of the Pacific Rim universe.
Eric Heisserer’s involvement in the new Pacific Rim prequel series brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in science fiction storytelling. Heisserer most recently served as the showrunner, executive producer, and writer for Netflix’s Shadow and Bone, a series that garnered a strong fanbase and critical acclaim over its two-season run.
