Tommy Wirkola, the director behind Violent Night, is gearing up for his next major release, a thrilling shark adventure now officially titled Beneath the Storm. Scheduled for a theatrical release on August 1, 2025, under Columbia Pictures, the film has already generated buzz thanks to its intriguing cast and high-profile producers.
Beneath the Storm will star Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton, Fair Play), Whitney Peak (Gossip Girl, Hocus Pocus 2), and Djimon Hounsou (Rebel Moon, A Quiet Place: Day One). While plot specifics are still tightly under wraps, the star power and talent behind the project have already heightened anticipation. The film is being produced by Oscar-winning filmmaker Adam McKay and Kevin Messick, renowned for their work on hit films like The Big Short and Don’t Look Up.
The release date positions Beneath the Storm in direct competition with The Bad Guys 2, an animated sequel from Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation. The animated feature, coincidentally featuring a shark as one of its lead characters, boasts an impressive voice cast including Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Craig Robinson, Anthony Ramos, Awkwafina, and Zazie Beetz.
Wirkola’s reputation for crafting irreverent, genre-bending films precedes him, with previous hits like Dead Snow, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, and What Happened to Monday. His latest foray into the thriller genre continues his unique directorial style, blending horror, action, and dark humor.
Phoebe Dynevor, who rose to fame as Daphne Bridgerton in Netflix’s global hit Bridgerton, is one of the most exciting young stars in Hollywood.
