The project was officially announced in January 2024, with principal photography commencing in September 2022. The film’s music is composed by the talented Thaman S, with Karthik Palani handling cinematography and Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao on editing duties. Following the buzz around Kalki 2898 AD, it was revealed in May 2024 that the film would have a sequel. Director Nag Ashwin confirmed Kalki 2898 AD: Part 2, which will begin production within three years. The sequel will continue the epic narrative of the original, further expanding the newly coined Kalki Cinematic Universe.
By June 2024, producer C. Aswani Dutt announced that 60% of the filming for Kalki 2898 AD: Part 2 was already completed, with major sequences still to be shot. This sequel is expected to be even more grandiose and visually stunning than its predecessor, pushing the boundaries of Indian sci-fi cinema.
