‘Supacell’ Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix

Supacell has officially been renewed for a second season on Netflix, following the success of its six-episode first season, which debuted in June.

The series has quickly become a standout hit for the streaming platform, marking one of its most successful UK original productions in recent years. Since its release, Supacell has consistently dominated Netflix’s top 10 charts globally, remaining a fan favorite for weeks.

Created by Rapman, the visionary director behind Blue Story, Supacell unfolds in modern-day South London, centering around a group of five ordinary Black individuals connected by a shared family history of sickle cell disease. Their lives take an extraordinary turn when they unexpectedly develop superpowers, drawing the attention of a secretive organization intent on controlling them.

With a fresh, exciting blend of supernatural elements and grounded storytelling, Supacell has captivated audiences worldwide.

Rapman not only created the series but also serves as an executive producer and director, alongside Sebastian Thiel, who shares directing duties. Steve Searle, Mouktar Mohammed, and Anna Ferguson also serve as executive producers, ensuring the show’s high-quality production and compelling narrative.

The talented ensemble cast includes Tosin Cole, Jessica Magaye, Ricardo McCleary-Campbell, Saraphina Mattis, Melissa Simon-Hartman, Cleo Young, and Micheal Ademilua, collectively known as the “Supacell Six,” whose chemistry and performances have been integral to the show’s success.

With Supacell’s renewal, fans can look forward to more thrilling episodes that delve deeper into the mystery of the superpowered group, their connection to sickle cell disease, and the shadowy forces that threaten them. Blue Exorcist: Beyond the Snow Saga Anime Unveils October 5 Debut, Ending Song

The staff behind the upcoming Blue Exorcist: Beyond the Snow Saga (Ao no Exorcist: Yuki no Hate-hen) anime has revealed the ending theme, titled “Tsurara,” performed by the band Yobahi.

Set to premiere on October 5, the anime will air on Tokyo MX, BS11, Gunma TV, and Tochigi TV at 24:30 JST (which effectively translates to 12:30 a.m. JST on October 6). Fans can also stream the series on U-NEXT, Hulu, d Anime Store, and Anime Hōdai starting at 25:00 JST (1:00 a.m. JST on October 6).

This new installment will span two cours (quarters of a year), with Blue Exorcist: Beyond the Snow Saga kicking off the first cour, followed by Blue Exorcist: The Blue Night Saga, set to air in January 2025. Crunchyroll will stream the series as it airs, ensuring global accessibility for fans.

The anime’s opening theme, “Re Rescue,” is performed by Reol, adding to the anticipation for the series’ release.

Director Daisuke Yoshida, scriptwriter Toshiya Ono, composers Kohta Yamamoto and Hiroyuki Sawano, and character designer and chief animation director Yurie Oohigashi are all set to return.

Blue Exorcist: Beyond the Snow Saga serves as a sequel to Blue Exorcist: Shimane Illuminati Saga, which premiered earlier this year in January. Both Crunchyroll and the English dub were made available for fans outside Japan, continuing the franchise’s global reach.

Directed by Daisuke Yoshida at Studio VOLN, the anime features a series composition by Toshiya Ono, character design and chief animation direction by Yurie Oohigashi, and a powerful soundtrack composed by Kohta Yamamoto and Hiroyuki Sawano. The rock band UVERworld provided the opening theme “Eye’s Sentry,” while Murasaki-Ima performed the ending theme “Gakkyū Nisshi” (Class Diary).

The Blue Exorcist manga, penned by Kazue Katō, debuted in Jump SQ. in 2009 and has since become a major success, with over 25 million copies in circulation. After a brief hiatus in July 2021, the manga resumed in May 2022, continuing the saga that fans have eagerly followed.

Viz Media publishes the manga in English, describing the story as follows:

“Raised by Father Fujimoto, a renowned exorcist, Rin Okumura lived a relatively normal life until a fateful argument revealed his true lineage—the blood of Satan himself runs through his veins. Determined to defy his infernal heritage, Rin vows to defeat Satan by enrolling in the mysterious True Cross Academy to become an exorcist. But with his demonic powers threatening to overwhelm him, can Rin keep his dark secret while battling the forces of evil?”

The Blue Exorcist franchise has expanded over the years, beginning with a 25-episode television anime in 2011, followed by the Blue Exorcist: Kuro Runs Away From Home OAV the same year, and a feature film that premiered in December 2012. The Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga television anime continued the story in 2017 with 12 episodes. The franchise also boasts several novels and a series of stage plays, solidifying its status as a beloved anime phenomenon.

Dominic Sessa to Star as Chef Anthony Bourdain in Biopic ‘Tony’

Dominic Sessa, who recently gained attention for his breakout role in Alexander Payne’s Oscar-winning dramedy The Holdovers, is slated to portray the iconic chef and television personality. This highly anticipated film is being developed by the acclaimed New York-based studio A24 in collaboration with Star Thrower Entertainment, known for their work on King Richard.

Helming the project is Matt Johnson, the director behind the acclaimed dark comedy Blackberry. The screenplay is crafted by Todd Bartels and Lou Howe, promising a narrative that captures the essence of Bourdain’s life and legacy. Producers include Tim and Trevor White of Star Thrower, alongside Matt Miller and director Matt Johnson, with Emily Rose serving as executive producer.

Anthony Bourdain first rose to fame with his candid memoir Kitchen Confidential, which pulled back the curtain on the restaurant industry. His charismatic presence and insatiable curiosity about global cultures propelled him to further acclaim as the host of No Reservations, a travel and food series that ran for eight successful seasons on the Travel Channel.

Bourdain continued to captivate audiences with his subsequent series, Parts Unknown on CNN, which he hosted until his untimely death in 2018.

Details about the biopic’s timeline remain under wraps, leaving fans eager to discover which chapter of Bourdain’s remarkable journey the film will explore.

Kitchen Confidential was previously adapted into a television series in 2005, with Bradley Cooper starring as a character inspired by Bourdain. More recently, the chef’s life and impact were explored in the 2021 documentary Roadrunner. This new biopic promises to offer yet another perspective on the life of one of the most influential figures in the culinary world.
